Celebrate this year’s bhai tika with the jajanka from Nepal
Jajanka is a cotton white thread worn around neck. The thread is ultimately bound to colorful cloth and circled so that there is no end. The round thread is about 2 feet in diameter. The Jajanka reminds one to be patient and of personal limits. It is like a boundary that one has to keep to help maintain respect and trust.
Bhai Tika is the festival in Tihar, a day that rests on the premises of love, rituals, beautiful hues, reverence and puja done especially for one’s brother. This occasion honors brother-sister relationships, celebrating the holy emotional bond that they share. It is marked by offering special prayers for each brother’s prosperity and long life.
