Buddha is the name given to Siddhartha Gautam after he became enlightened one. He is frequently called Shakyamuni, “the sage of the Shakya clan” as he was born in then Shakya republic of Kosala Kingdom near Kapilvastu (c. 6th–4th century BCE) now known as Lumbini.
