Six Seasons of Nepal - Foomantra.com Blog

You have heard of four (4) seasons. Have you heard of six (6) seasons? Yes, you heard it right six seasons!! The country where people count six seasons is Nepal.

Nepal is a small landlocked country in South Asia nestled between the Himalayas and plains of India. Even though, the country is small, it has been blessed with great ecological diversity. Within a short distance, Nepal’s topography changes from the alluvial Gangetic plains suitable for agriculture to the frozen wastes of the Himalayan mountains. The elevation ranges from plains of Terai of 50 meter (492 feet) above the sea levels to highest peak of the world of 8,848 meters (29,028 feet). Because of this bit variation of altitude within 120 mile (200 kilometers) of distance, the significance of varying weather is important for Nepali people.

In Nepal, the six seasons are as below:

Basanta Ritu बसन्त ऋतु (Spring:  mid-March to mid-May)

Grishma Ritu ग्रिष्म ऋतु (Early Summer: mid-May to mid-July)

Barsha Ritu वर्षा ऋतु (Sumer Monsoon: mid-July to mid-September)

Sharad Ritu शरद ऋतु (Early Autumn: mid-September to mid-November)

Hemanta Ritu हेमन्त ऋतु (Late Autumn: mid-November to mid-January)

Shishir Ritu शिशिर ऋतु (Winter: mid-January to mid-March)
